Bartley Participates in Governor Cuomo's "If You Can See It, You Can Be It" Campaign

Spring 2018

Associate Alana R. Bartley recently participated in the Orange County Chamber of Commerce's inaugural program under Governor Andrew M. Cuomo's innovative "If You Can See it You Can Be It" campaign. The goal of the campaign is to pair business leaders across New York with girls from low-income communities and the foster care system each Spring to teach them about opportunities outside of the "traditional" career paths for girls.  Bartley jumped at the chance to speak, commenting, "The women in my firm have been talking recently about how we might get out into the community and encourage young women to consider career paths in the law. There are so many opportunities available to girls in industries that may be viewed by society as male-oriented. This was the perfect chance to show them - hey, we are here and we are doing it and so can you." Addressing students from the local all-girls Nora Cronin Presentation Academy, she and the other featured speakers talked to the girls about the ins and outs of their professions. This Orange County Chamber of Commerce program is expected to run annually.  "Hopefully this one-day program is just the start of more mentoring programs becoming available to all girls throughout our area," says Bartley.
